AIRPORT COMMISSION MEETING & COOKOUT
The next NRMA Airport Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21st, at 6:00 PM in hangar 6-1 at the airport. Agenda items include an update on airport activities, personal property tax issues, and communications and miscellaneous. Everyone is invited to a cookout immediately following the meeting.
A SUMMER OF EXTREMES
First it was cold, then too wet, then too hot, then too dry, then way too wet. The summer of 2001 has been a bit on the interesting side. June was incredibly wet, with over 5 inches of rain in the first 18 days, followed by a dry period lasting until August 1st. If you happened to be around the airport on August 1st, it was a day to remember. Between 3 am and 12:30 pm, the AWOS recorded an incredible 5.41 inches of rain. For a brief period, there was at least a foot of water across the south aircraft parking apron. The drainage ditches between runway 14-32 and the parallel taxiway were well beyond overflowing. Typical rainfall for the entire month of August is 4.2 inches. A meteorologist in the Twin Cities stated New Richmond experienced a "100 year event." Also....during the periods of hot weather this summer, the maximum temp reached 98 degrees, dew point a not-so-pleasant 79 degrees, and the density altitude reached an amazing 4,400'.
MORE CONSTRUCTION
NRMA received the go-ahead for an aircraft parking apron expansion. The recently constructed apron in the north hangar area is currently 127' wide x 270' deep. A 150' x 180' addition will be added during the next several weeks. The apron is undergoing an expansion in order to accommodate a new airport business. Details of the new business will follow.....
HANGAR UPDATE
Several new hangars in the north hangar area should begin appearing within the next few weeks. Nine hangars have been completed thus far, with another eleven or so on the way. Over half of the north area is now leased. If you are interested in leasing a lot in the north hangar area, let me know. A layout of the area, as well as a sample lease agreement, is available on our hangar construction page located at http://www.nrairport.com/hangars.htm
HANGAR SPACE FOR RENT
Steve Ulrich, owner of hangar 14-3 in the north hangar area, informed me he has several spaces available for rent. If you are looking for a hangar space, you can send Steve an e-mail at ulrich@pressenter.com.
NDB PROBLEMS
The NDB has experienced intermittent outages over the past month. Our NDB technician stated we were having problems with the antenna. After several hours of repairs and a flight check by the FAA, the NDB is now back in service. New instrument approach minimums are still coming. The people who re-write the instrument approach procedures are apparently several months behind in their work.
ON-LINE RESOURCES
For those students and renters at MDFI...checklists, weight & balance forms, GPS 250XL and GNS 430 cheat sheets, and other info will be available on the NRMA website later this week. You can download the forms for personal use with Adobe Acrobat. Go to the FBO page to find the link - it should be up and running by Thursday.
FUEL PRICES
Fuel prices at NRMA are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.79 for Jet A.
Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975 and the AWOS frequency is 120.0.
