WE'RE BACK
It's been 8 months since the NRMA News was distributed. I've gathered the
necessary motivation to start-up the newsletter again and I have also run
out of excuses for not sending out the newsletter. So, I guess we're back
by popular demand. This time, I'll try to make it bigger and better.
Thanks for your patience! If you have any helpful hints for the newsletter
or the website - I'll take em'.
HANGAR SHOW
NRMA is sponsoring a one-of-a-kind event. A hangar show will be held from
6-9 PM on Thursday, March 23rd, 2000 at WITC - New Richmond. The first-time
event is styled like a home show. If you are considering updating an
existing hangar or possibly constructing a new hangar at any airport - this
show is for you! Representatives from Butler Buildings, Menards, Cleary,
Walters, Lester, Morton, Northland, UBC, Wick, Schweiss, and Hi-Fold will be
in attendance as well as local lending institutions. No matter what airport
you choose to build a hangar, these reps can answer your questions. By the
way...admission is FREE! For further info call 715-246-7735 or email me at
mike@nrairport.com. Help spread the word about the show. This is a first
time event that could benefit all airports in western Wisconsin.
ZONING UPDATE
Last year, the Airport Commission, Planning Commission, and the City Council
worked together to establish an airport zoning ordinance. The ordinance
establishes restrictions on the construction of new homes within a 1.5 mile
radius of the airport. The Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics provided
additional input suggesting a no-residential zone be established along the
extended centerlines of each runway. The proposed boundaries are 1300' on
either side of 14-32 extending outward 5000' from each runway end. Existing
homes, commercial and industrial buildings are permitted in the area, but
new residential construction will be prohibited. Boundaries for runway 4-22
are under discussion. A public hearing on a modified airport zoning
ordinance addressing the Bureau's recommended no-residential area is on the
Planning Commission agenda for April 4th. Input from airport users is
definitely welcome.
UPCOMING PROJECTS
2000 promises to be a very busy year for NRMA. Several projects totaling
nearly $1,000,000 are planned. The AWOS installation planned for 1999 has
cleared most road blocks and will be installed this summer. A long awaited
parallel taxiway to runway 14-32 will also be constructed as well as a new
hangar area west of the departure end of runway 32. The hangar area will
have an ultimate capacity of 76 hangars. A timeline for the projects will
be developed later this month.
RUNWAY STILL CLOSED
Runway 4-22 (2110' x 75', turf) will remain closed for another 2 weeks or
so. The mild winter actually took its toll on the runway. The runway
remained in use until mid-late December last year. Continuous use resulted
in thin areas with little or no grass. The "experts" recommend the runway
be reseeded and fertilized this spring.
AVIATION CONFERENCE
The annual Wisconsin Aviation Conference is planned for April 10th - 12th at
the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point. Check-out the Wisconsin Bureau of
Aeronautics website for information.

ONE LAST THING...
If you see this guy, thank him. State Senator Russ Decker (D-Weston) is
fighting for general aviation airports. Midwest Express Airlines is
lobbying for a huge tax break (about $2,000,000 annually) that would have a
tremendously negative impact on general aviation airports in Wisconsin. The
taxes from Midwest Express and other airline property taxes, fund projects
at GA airports throughout the state. He was quoted as saying "It is
incredibly unfair to undermine local economic development efforts throughout
Wisconsin to give a tax break to one airline that operates primarily out of
Milwaukee."
