AIRPORT PROJECT UPDATE
The good news - the project will happen this year. The bad news - the start date was pushed back a month. The upcoming airport improvement project will add a parallel taxiway to runway 14-32 and add several taxilanes to a new hangar development area on the northwest side of the airport. As of late, 32 individuals and businesses have expressed interest in building hangars in the new area. The start date for the project is now set for late July/early August. The entire project should be completed in late October if the weather cooperates. If you are on the hangar waiting list, I will be sending you additional information within the next two weeks.
NEW APRON LIGHTING
They're not exactly new, but they should work out just fine. The airport has acquired the light poles and fixtures from the former site of Cox Motors in New Richmond. A new post office building is planned for the lot beginning May 8th. The current owners of the lot offered the poles and fixtures at deeply discounted prices. Over the next couple of days, the lights will be removed from the lot and overhauled. Sometime this summer we will install the overhauled units near the fuel apron and possibly on the soon-to-be-completed apron on the northwest end of the airport.
AWOS
While I was at the Wisconsin Aviation Conference, I spoke with the firm responsible for the installation and maintenance of the new AWOS unit planned for NRMA. The president of the company stated the different AWOS components should be delivered to the airport within the next couple of weeks. The install date is now planned for mid to late May.
PILOT LOUNGE GOES HIGH TECH
NRMA has acquired a new LED message display board for use in the pilot lounge in the Griggs Aviation building. Important airport information will be continuously displayed. Watch for the new display within the next week or so.
ZONING MEETINGS
City and NRMA officials will be meeting with representatives from Star Prairie Township (located on the north and west side of the airport) over the next several weeks to discuss airport zoning. A special committee was formed by New Richmond Mayor Dave Schnitzler following the public hearing held before the Planning Commission earlier this month.
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.89 for 100LL and $1.49 for Jet A.
