AIRPORT PROJECT UPDATE - CONSTRUCTION BEGINS!
Contractors began work on the parallel taxiway and new hangar area at the airport last Friday. After only 2 days of work, you can already see a tremendous amount of progress. The general outline of the taxiway is now taking shape. If all goes well, asphalt should be going in during the second week of October. If anyone is interested in leasing a hangar lot in the new hangar area, let me know!
AWOS
The automated weather station at the airport is now installed and partially operational. Initial installation was completed in June. The FAA gave its blessing to the site about 2 weeks ago. We are now waiting for the company who installed the unit to come back and finish the job. You can check the current weather at NRMA by calling the AWOS at 246-3202. The AWOS info will be available on a frequency of 120.0 within the next few weeks.
NEW SIGNS & AIRPORT DIRECTORY
Each hangar at the airport now has a new 6" x 9", red and white address sign. The signs were installed in August and are located on the front of each hangar. A directory of all hangars at the airport is located near the entrance to the parking lot near Airport Road.
NEW NDB
The non-directional radio beacon at the airport was struck by lightning and destroyed on June 1st. A new Southern Avionics NDB was purchased and installed in July and commissioned by the FAA in early August. After years of marginal NDB coverage, NRMA now has a quality transmitter that has 4 to 5 times the range of the previous unit. The new NDB is located in the orange and white building north of the intersection of runway 14-32 and 4-22.
GCO IS OTS
The ground communications outlet used for contacting Minneapolis Approach from the ground at NRMA is out of service. The unit stopped working in mid-August and was shipped back to the manufacturer in Maryland for repair. In the meantime, if you need to pick-up your IFR clearance from the ground, call the number for Minneapolis Approach posted near the payphone in the Griggs Aviation building.
COMMISSION MEETING
Plan on attending the next Airport Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 27th at 6:30 PM in hangar 6-1 at the airport. Agenda items include the 2001 budget and airport leases. We will have another big ol' cookout after the meeting. This will be the last meeting of the year held at the airport.
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.49 for Jet A.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Watch for an upcoming safety seminar to be held in New Richmond. I have a request in to the FAA.
