AIRPORT PROJECT UPDATE
Week 1 of the construction project brought tremendous changes to NRMA. The parallel taxiway is taking shape on the west side of runway 14-32. Work started on the north hangar area on Saturday. Runway 4-22 will be closed for the next six weeks or so. The airport windsock will also be unlighted until early November. The airport website has a link to construction pictures at http://www.nrairport.com - Click on the Const. Photos link on the left side of the screen.
GOT FIREWOOD?
NRMA has plenty of firewood which we do not need. Dresel Construction removed several large trees along the future access road on the north side of the airport. The trees were actually pulled out of the ground with dozers and tipped over just north of the former 200th Ave. If anyone needs firewood, get in there and get cutting - quick. The contractor would like the trees removed by this weekend.
AWOS Update
The company doing the install of the automated weather observation station assured me late last week the AWOS unit will be fully operational by the middle of October.
AIRPORT PLANNING
NRMA is in the process of developing a plan of action for the next ten years. A meeting was held between NRMA and representatives from the New Richmond Economic Development Commission and the St. Croix County Economic Development Commission this week to discuss the local business needs of the airport. If you have any suggestions for the plan, please e-mail me at mike@nrairport.com.
INMATE POWER
Inmates from the St. Croix Correctional Center in New Richmond performed community service work at NRMA during the past week. Work crews ranging in size from 4 to 10 inmates removed dozens of box elder trees along a fenceline off the departure end of runway 32 which were creeping closer and closer to the safety area. Inmates also collected about 1 ton of junk NRMA inherited from previous land owners. The inmates will be back this week to seal coat the fuel apron and paint around the fuel pumps.
CLEAN SWEEP
This Saturday, September 23rd, from 9am to 1pm, New Richmond will be hosting a Clean Sweep. The event is a hazardous materials collection held at the New Richmond Street Department garage located on Dakota Ave. south of Industrial Blvd. The event is a great opportunity to dispose of all the not-so-safe materials that many of us have a tendency to stockpile in our hangars. Accepted items include oil filters (disposal cost is $.70 each), cleaners, solvents, lawn and garden chemicals, etc. Used oil and aircraft batteries are not on the list of acceptable items. Both of these items can be taken to the city of New Richmond Recycling Center on any Saturday from 8am-noon.
SEA PLANE RAMP
A special thank you to everyone who helped redesign the sea plane ramp leading to Hatfield Lake. Over the last few years, sea plane pilots were losing a serious battle with the erosion that occurred during rain storms. Several innovative ideas were incorporated into the new design. Thus far, the erosion problem appears to be solved and sea plane access to the lake is much improved.
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.49 for Jet A.
