AIRPORT PROJECT UPDATE
The parallel taxiway and new hangar area construction is drawing near completion. The parallel taxiway could be ready for use within two weeks. The first layer of asphalt was applied on Monday. The next layer should be applied tomorrow (Thursday). The airport will be closed to all aircraft on Thursday from 7 am until 6 pm for paving unless you have prior permisson. Give me a call at 246-7735 if you need to use the airport tomorrow. The windsock lights should be back in operation by the end of the week, too. For a listing of current local and distant notams for NRMA, stop by the pilot lounge in the Griggs Aviation hangar. You can follow the construction progress by going to the construction photos page at the NRMA web site.
AWOS
The much anticipated Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS) at New Richmond Municipal Airport received the go-ahead from the FAA last Thursday. All equipment is installed and the unit is 100% operational. The unit takes weather observations every minute and uploads the info to the FAA and the National Weather Service every twenty minutes. You can call the AWOS and check local conditions by dialing 246-3202 or stop by the pilot lounge in the Griggs Aviation building and check out the computer display. The weather data is also available on-line at the NRMA weather page - go to the suface observation link and enter in the airport identifier RNH and click the submit button. If you're out flying, the information is broadcast on a frequency of 120.0 MHz.
CRACK FILLING
Sections of the airport will be closed over the next week to repair cracks in the airport pavement. The auto parking lot, access road and taxilanes will all undergo repair. The airport will remain open while the work is completed.
AIR TOURS
Last Saturday, commercial rated pilots provided air tours around the New Richmond area for local residents. Although low clouds and a 70 degree crosswind existed, approximately $200 was raised. The money will be used on airport equipment purchases. Thanks to all who helped out with the tours.
FUEL PUMPS
If things look a little different around the fuel pumps, thank the inmates. The inmates from the St. Croix Correctional Center were back at the airport last week putting in aprroximately 50 man-hours. The west half of the fuel apron was seal-coated and the area around the pumps was painted. The cost of jet fuel took a bit of a jump last week, too. The cost went up to $1.79 per gallon which is still a bargain.
SEA-PLANE RAMP
Notice to the dozen or so sea-plane owners at NRMA...the sea-plane ramp leading to Hatfield Lake on the south side of the airport will be closed for the winter effective November 20th.
SOUNDS LIKE NO SAND THIS WINTER
In the last issue of NRMA News, I asked for opinions on sanding runway 14-32 during the winter when braking action is poor or worse. The majority of the people felt the sanding was not needed and was too harmful to props. Therefore, things will stay as is.
CONGRATS
NRMA has a couple of new pilots this month. Josh Ulrich, a New Richmond native and an aviation student at St. Cloud State, completed his private pilot training along with Zach Simma, also a New Richmond native now attending St. Thomas in St. Paul.
BUILDING A HANGAR?
If you are thinking about building a hangar, check-out the new NRMA hangar info page. The page has links and phone numbers for area hangar builders, door companies, concrete and asphalt companies, insulation, etc. There are still a few hangar spaces available for lease at NRMA. If you are interested in leasing a hangar space - send me an e-mail. The hangar info page can be accessed from this link: http://www.nrairport.com/new%20hangars.htm
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.79 for Jet A.
