GA OVERFLIGHTS AT MSP
Sometime in 2003, following the completion of the new runway 17-35 at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, general aviation flights over MSP will come to an end. GA flights headed southwest out of NRMA typically climb to 4000' and fly directly over MSP's runway 4-22. MSP tower administrators reported the new runway would remove the flyover option once it's commissioned. Alternatives to the flyover route consist of either flying north or south of the metro area. Either route adds considerable time and expense to a flight. Let us know what you think of the future overflight restrictions. Your comments will hopefully help create a workable solution with the FAA before 2003 arrives.
and...don't forget to send your comments regarding the proposed Minneapolis Class B expansion in to the FAA. You can download an official comment form from http://www.nrairport.com/news.htm
IT'S A FIRST FOR THE NORTH HANGAR AREA
The first airplane based in the new north hangar area at NRMA arrived this past weekend. The 172 is parked in a nearly completed steel-frame hangar in lot 12-2. Demand for hangar lots continues to be brisk. A total of 14 hangars should be finished or under construction this spring with several more to follow in the summer. For info on hangar construction companies go to the nrairport.com hangar construction page.
SPRING FLY-IN
A planning session for the spring fly-in breakfast is scheduled for 6PM on Thursday, February 8th in hangar 6-1 at the airport. Anyone interested in lending a hand during the fly-in is asked to attend the meeting. If you can't attend the meeting but would like to help out during the fly-in, send me an e-mail and I will make sure you get scheduled. Workers are needed for food preparation, aircraft parking, car parking, fueling, etc. The fly-in will be held on Sunday, April 22nd from 7:30 til noon. A dedication ceremony is also planned during the fly-in recognizing the completion of the improvements at NRMA. I sent a letter to the soon-to-be new Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum requesting his presence during the dedication.
AWOS INSPECTION
Technicians from CLH, Inc. out of Minneapolis completed the quarterly inspection of the automated weather observation station at NRMA last week. No problems were reported.
NEW LOOK
nrairport.com underwent a minor makeover last week - the first since its creation back in 1997. The links to areas within nrairport.com were all moved to the left border making navigation much easier. A few items were also added to the weather page. If you have any ideas, comments, suggestions, or questions, you can now submit them to me from the comment page located at http://www.nrairport.com/comments.htm. Things in the works for nrairport.com include AWOS and CTAF audio over the net and the real possibility of an apron/runway cam.
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.79 for Jet A.
Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975.
