ICE STORM
Nearly half an inch of freezing rain left the runway and taxiways at NRMA a mess this morning. The storm brought the most hazardous runway conditions since the last big ice storm in 1996. Braking action was nonexistent on all airport surfaces throughout last night. The runway is in much better condition this evening, however, after being plowed three times today. Braking action will probably be upgraded from poor to fair on Wednesday.
OUR NOTICES TO AIRMAN ARE BACK
Back in October of 1998, the Notice to Airman advisories (Notams) for NRMA experienced a big mix-up. The FAA's Flight Service Stations had access to our Notams, but private weather companies, such as Kavourus, CLH's WeatherMation, and DTN couldn't access them for some unexplained reason. Effective last week, they're back. Somebody, somewhere corrected the problem. The Notams are now accessible from all weather sites.
NOT JUST A SPRING FLY-IN ANYMORE
I mentioned last week we are planning a fly-in and taxiway dedication ceremony on Sunday, April 22nd. Local pilot and airshow performer Pete Tallarita has offered to take things to the next step. Pete and Doug Yost from Rice Lake are going to put on an airshow. Pete performs in a German built Extra 300 aerobatic aircraft and Doug flys a Pitts. NRMA is in the process of completing the FAA paperwork required for the airshow waiver. If anyone is interested in lending a hand with the fly-in/airshow, please attend an organizational meeting on Thursday, February 8th in hangar 6-1 at the airport or send me an e-mail. NRMA DISCUSSION BOARD DEBUTS
Post questions or comments about flying, the NRMA News, the airport, or just about anything, on the official NRMA discussion board located at http://www.nrairport.com/discussion/. We will try it for a few weeks. Give it a try. Also new on the website this week is an on-line aircraft rental sign-up form - go to the FBO page at nrairport.com.
COMMISSION MEETING RESCHEDULED
The meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 30th is rescheduled for Tuesday, February 13th at 6:30 PM in the Civic Center.
UPDATED CHARTS
The FAA has updated the Instrument Approach Procedures for NRMA with our new AWOS frequency of 120.0 and common traffic advisory frequency of 122.975. The airport/facility directory also reflected the change. The Green Bay sectional chart and the Jeppesen instrument en route chart do not reflect the change yet. Look for those updates in June. If you have two radios in your aircraft and you are in the NRMA traffic pattern, I highly encourage you to monitor 122.9 (our old frequency) for a few more months.
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.79 for Jet A.
Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975.
