CLASS B DEADLINE
Comments on the proposed expansion of the airspace surrounding Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport are due no later than March 10th, 2001. The proposal calls for increasing the heavily restricted airspace around MSP from a radius of 20 miles out to 30 miles. If the proposal goes through as presented, NRMA will be about 1.5 miles away from the new class B area, which could have a negative impact on our local operations. Please take a few moments and submit your comments to the FAA. You can download an official comment submission form from the news page at nrairport.com.
AIRCRAFT MISHAP
Last Thursday was an event filled day at NRMA. At approximately 1:00 PM, a pilot operating a Cessna 206 lost control on landing. His aircraft veered left on the landing rollout and collided with a snow bank. The momentum of the aircraft caused the aircraft to nose over and land good side down resulting in damage to the tail, wing tips, and prop. The sole occupant of the aircraft reported no injuries. Investigators from the FAA authorized the removal of the aircraft by mid-afternoon on Thursday. LaVenture Crane was hired to hoist the aircraft back on its wheels so the aircraft could be towed to a hangar in the south hangar area. I found out today that representatives from LaVenture Crane submitted photos from the hoisting operation to the local media. I figured if the story was going to get told, you might as well hear it here first. The aircraft is based at Anoka County Airport.
HANGAR STATUS
The north hangar area continues to grow by the day. Fifteen leases have been issued for the area thus far, bringing the total number of leased lots at the airport to 59. The nrairport.com hangar construction page has info on available lots, hangar construction companies, aviation friendly lending institutions, and sub-contractors. http://www.nrairport.com/new%20hangars.htm
NEW TIE-DOWN FEES
The Airport Commission agreed to update the fees charged to the owners of aircraft parked on the north and south aprons at the airport. Effective April 1st, the owners will be assessed fees of $2 per night after 3 nights, or $40 per month.
AIRPORT ORDINANCES
I reported two weeks ago the airport ordinances would be available on-line. I still have about a week's worth of work before they are ready,
