AVIATION SAFETY SEMINAR
Officials from the Minneapolis Flight Standards District Office announced today they will present an aviation safety seminar on May 2nd. The seminar will be held in the Cashman Conference Center on the campus of WITC-New Richmond. Approximately 75 to 100 area pilots are expected to attend. Watch for flyers in the mail over the next few weeks for additional info. The event is sponsored by NRMA

CLASS B COMMENTS
The deadline for submitting comments to the FAA regarding the proposed expansion of the Class B airspace surrounding Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is fast approaching. All comments must be submitted by March 10th. An official comment form is available at http://www.nrairport.com/news.htm.

APRIL FLY-IN
Things are coming together for the NRMA fly-in and taxiway/north hangar area ribbon cutting scheduled for Sunday, April 22nd. Flyers advertising the fly-in will be mailed to over 275 FBO's and airports throughout the area within the next two weeks. I heard from a representative from the Minnesota National Guard yesterday. They are working out the details on bringing up to three helicopters to NRMA on the 22nd, including the OH58's and AH-1 Cobra. The paperwork for the FAA airshow waiver was completed and shipped off to the FAA. And....Glenn Weibel, a Faribault resident and Operations Manager for the USBancorp Aviation Department, has agreed to handle the air traffic advisory responsibilities. You may recognize Glenn. He has done an excellent job handling the fly-in traffic at the Burnett County Airport in Siren over the past several years.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THESE
We just received a shipment of official NRMA hats last week. The hats are $9.95 each and feature the NRMA logo and are very similar in style to the AOPA hats. Check out the picture of the hats on the nrairport.com news page and pick out the style you like or stop by my office in hangar 6-1.

C-130's
I received a call from the National Guard unit in New Richmond last week. They were making preliminary plans to have two C-130 Hercules aircraft fly to NRMA in August and pick up the local Guard members. They would make a return trip one week later. The C-130's are powered by four Allison turbo-prop engines producing over 4,000 shp each. Max takeoff weight is around 155,000 lbs. Military personnel will be investigating whether our pavement will support the weight of the aircraft.

RUNWAY INCURSIONS
The addition of the parallel taxiway at NRMA has dramatically cut down on the number of runway incursions occurring at NRMA. If you do experience a runway incursion at NRMA or any other non-towered airport, NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) would like to hear about it. Go to http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/data_request/request_nt1.htm for additional information.

RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT
You will probably notice a couple of new residential housing developments under construction within 1.5 miles of NRMA this summer. The Planning Commission approved a final plat this evening for a development located north of NRMA. The preliminary plat for a development southeast of the airport will probably be coming up this spring. The Airport Commission, Planning Commission, and City Council, have imposed restrictions on the housing developments, however. Houses constructed in the developments must meet a certain building code that minimizes external sound. Also, a statement on the plat requires owners to acknowledge the existence of the airport, their proximity to the airport, and to not complain about it.

HANGARS
An updated north hangar layout is available for downloading from the hangar construction page at nrairport.com. Fifteen leases are out thus far with more in the works.

FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.79 for Jet A.

Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975 and the AWOS frequency is 120.0.
