AIRPORT COMMISSION MEETING
The next Airport Commission meeting is scheduled for tonight (March 27th) at 6:30 pm in hangar 6-1 at the airport. Our first cook-out of the year is planned for immediately after the meeting (grilled chicken). The meeting agenda is fairly short. The Commission will review a certified survey map of a parcel located about 1/2 mile north of the airport. The property owner is in the process of having a section of property rezoned from ag to industrial to accommodate a small church. The Commission will also review a request from a landowner who wants to rezone a parcel located 1/2 mile south of the airport from single family to multi family.
NEW LIGHTS
You may notice the runway lights along runway 14-32 are just a bit brighter. Fifty-six runway and two taxiway light bulbs were changed over the past ten days or so. The glass lens covering each light was also cleaned. Instead of burning out, the lights tend to get dimmer and dimmer over time resulting in a mix of a few bright lights and several dim lights. The runway lights were originally installed in the summer of 1992.
SPRING THAW
The good news is the glacier covering the south aircraft parking apron at NRMA has finally receded. Bad news is something you will experience if you happen to venture off the new taxiway while taxiing your aircraft. Please be careful while turning onto or exiting the new taxiway. The shoulders are very, very soft. I can assure you the mains of even a Cessna 150 will sink several inches into the mud.
FLY-IN
Notices were mailed today to over 150 FBO's and airport managers in Minnesota and Wisconsin advising of the upcoming fly-in at NRMA. The fly-in is scheduled for Sunday, April 22nd from 7am - noon. I've heard from several people thus far offering their assistance during the fly-in, including the local Boy Scout Troop. If anyone else is interested in helping out, send me an e-mail.
HANGAR CONSTRUCTION
Six hangars are near completion in the new north hangar area at NRMA. Another six should be under construction during April and May. A total of 20 to 25 lots are expected to be leased by the end of this summer, which would bring the area to an occupancy rate of about 70%.
SAFETY SEMINAR
I received the flyer advertising the upcoming FAA Safety Seminar to be held at WITC on May 2nd. The program is all new and should be worth attending.
FUEL PRICES
Avgas and jet fuel prices are still only $1.99 for 100LL and $1.79 for Jet A.
Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975 and the AWOS frequency is 120.0.
