NRMA NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 2nd, 2001
Welcome to the 44th issue of NRMA News - an almost weekly, sometimes monthly, summary of events at New Richmond Municipal Airport. This newsletter is sent to approximately 175 individuals associated with NRMA.

FUEL PRICES FALL
Jay Griggs of Griggs Aviation announced Saturday the price of 100LL dropped a remarkable $.15 per gallon to $1.79. Jet A is still $1.69 per gallon. A quick check of the AirNav.com fuel finder for the area confirmed NRMA has the lowest fuel prices in the Metro area.
AIRPORT BUDGET
The Finance Committee of the New Richmond City Council will review the NRMA budget at a special meeting tonight. The Airport Commission approved the budget at the regular meeting held in October. Items included in the 2002 budget include money for an airport maintenance building, funding for the reconstruction of two taxilanes, and money for design and engineering of future projects. I'll let you know how things turn out.
NEW SIGNS
Two new 30" x 5' signs marking the entrance to the north hangar area at NRMA will be erected within the next few weeks. The signs will be placed about 1000' north and south of the north entrance by workers from the St. Croix County Highway Department. An airport directory and directional signs to the north hangar area are planned for early next year.
HANGAR SPACES
The north hangar layout was updated as of last Friday. Only seven or so spaces remain. If you are interested in constructing a hangar, let me know. For information regarding hangar construction, checkout our hangar construction page at: http://www.nrairport.com/new%20hangars.htm
SNOW REMOVAL
NRMA was hit with 3.6 inches of wet, blowing snow last Monday and Tuesday. Over 9 hours of plowing was required to keep all airport pavement clear of snow for the 6 or so business flights we had over the two days. Airport policy has been to plow the runway whenever 1" or more of snow has fallen or drifted. My goal each year is to keep the airport open 24/7 with zero closures due to snow. If you are planning an early-morning departure or late night arrival and need the runway swept or plowed "one more time", let me know. It will get done.
The first snowfall of the year typically means the end of the grass runway and the sea-plane base for the season. The grass runway is now closed to all aircraft until further notice. The runway will be available to ski equipped aircraft when adequate snow is present. Believe it or not, we actually had a few sea-plane operations on Saturday, December 1st. Those ops will probably be the last of the year. Ice was beginning to form on Hatfield Lake early Monday morning.
NRMA WEATHER
The weather page ( http://www.nrairport.com/weather.htm ) underwent a slight reorganization last week. Current conditions, forecasts, advisories, and radar are now available in an easy to sort through format. If you can think of any other weather links you would like added to the weather page, send me an e-mail. One thing you may want to try if you have an internet capable mobile phone is the NRMA mobile phone weather page. It's nothing fancy, but it's and easy way to get the current weather, Minneapolis/St. Paul forecast, and NOTAM's for NRMA when you are away from a computer.
PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
Another housing development is planned for an area appoximately 1 mile south of NRMA. The Planning Commission will view a preliminary plat of the development at a meeting this evening. NRMA will require certain building code requirements are met and future home owners will be required to acknowledge their proximity to the airport and agree not to complain about it.
PRODUCT RECALL
Just in case you didn't hear yet, Aeroshell Aviation Oil is recalling about 264,000 gallons of oil produced between September 7th and November 13th. For info on the specific products involved, go to the Aeroshell website at http://www.aeroshell.com/recall.html
Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975 and the AWOS frequency is 120.0.
