AIRPORT BUSINESS MAKES HEADLINES
The March 2002 issue of Flying Magazine, a national publication with a readership of over 1.2 million people, has a six page pilot report on an Aviat Husky A-1B aircraft equipped with a set of experimental Baumann 2150 amphibious floats. Baumann Floats, LLC has a manufacturing facility located in hangar 10-1 at NRMA. Baumann produces a wide range of floats for single engine aircraft. You can check out their product line at http://www.baumannfloats.com . Workers also began construction on another 5600 square foot storage hangar for Baumann Floats last week. The hangar is located twenty feet west of their existing facility.
JUST A REMINDER
Saturday, January 26th, was just about the most perfect January day for flying we have ever had. I recorded the radio traffic that day. NRMA logged over 300 take-offs and landings between 7:30 am and 7:00 pm. Most of the aircraft using NRMA were on the appropriate common traffic advisory frequency of 122.975. Some, however, are still using the old frequency of 122.9, which can make things way too interesting. I encourage everyone to monitor 122.9 when operating near NRMA - especially on weekends. If you hear someone broadcasting on the wrong frequency, help him or her out. As a sort of ground based reminder, I bought a 10' x 3' bright blue banner with the words CTAF - 122.975 on it. I will be displaying the banner near the south aircraft-parking apron during the weekends.
HANGAR SPACE
An updated layout of the North Hangar Area at NRMA is available for download at http://www.nrairport.com/new%20hangars.htm . Only six or seven spaces remain out of the original thirty-three. Work should begin on two hangars in row 11 within the next several days, as well as two hangars in row 14. If you are interested in constructing a hangar at NRMA, give me a call at 715-246-7735. If you are looking to rent a hangar space, I know of a few spaces available. Give me a call.
NEW HIGHWAY
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation released sketches and timetables for a new State Highway 64 running between New Richmond and the Wisconsin-Minnesota line near Stillwater. The 14 mile, 85 million-dollar project is scheduled to begin this fall and continue through 2006. Access to NRMA should be greatly improved with the new highway construction. Preliminary sketches show an interchange is planned for the south boundary of NRMA. A map of the project is available at: http://www.dot.state.wi.us/dtd/hdist6/images/64-mainmap.jpg
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
I spoke with Marlan Perhus from the Minneapolis Flight Standards District Office of the FAA last week. The FAA and NRMA are planning another aviation safety seminar this spring. The event is tentatively planned for Tuesday, April 30th in New Richmond. Typically, NRMA sponsors a safety seminar every two years. We had a great turnout in 2001; the FAA has offered to make it an annual event. More info will follow.....
FUEL PRICES FALL - AGAIN!
Jay Griggs announced last week the new price of avgas at NRMA is now $1.74 per gallon. The new price represents a nickel per gallon decrease. Jet A remains at $1.69 per gallon.
NEW COMPUTER
A new computer with internet and DUAT (direct user access terminal) access was installed last week next to the WeatherMation computer in the Griggs Aviation hangar. The computer, which was donated by a local pilot, will enhance the pilot weather gathering capabilities already available at NRMA.
JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING
Peak wind gust at NRMA yesterday was recorded at 41 knots or 47 mph.
Don't forget, the common traffic advisory frequency at NRMA is now 122.975 and the AWOS frequency is 120.0.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
