AIRPORT COMMISSION MEETING
A meeting of the Airport Commission is planned for tomorrow evening (June 24th) at 6:30 PM in hangar 6-1 at New Richmond Muni Airport. A public hearing will be held during the meeting covering several small improvements that may occur during the next few years, including: Reconstruct south aircraft parking apron, reconstruct aircraft fuel apron, reconstruct parallel taxiway to runway 4-22, reconstruct taxilanes in south hangar area, construct a connecting taxiway between runway 4-22 and the parallel taxiway to runway 4-22, construct automobile parking area, seal-coat and crack repair airport pavement, refurbish airport runway lighting, precision approach path indicator lights, and runway end identifier lights, construction of an airport maintenance building and parking area, acquire snow removal equipment, install approach lighting, and any necessary related work.

The customary airport cookout will follow the meeting. Food and beverages will be provided.

A BIT ON THE BUSY SIDE
You may have noticed traffic levels at the airport are picking up. IFR arrivals and departures are up over 23% compared to last year. Business jet operations are up over 960%, too. We even had four operations from a Falcon 50 during Memorial Day weekend.

OVER SIX MILLION IN 2001
The Wisconsin DoT released the findings of an economic impact study last month. Using data from 2001, the study revealed NRMA contributed over $6.4 million to the local and state economy and supported 118 jobs with a payroll of over $2.7 million. The complete study will be posted on the airport website later this week.

NEW GCO
The Ground Communication Outlet (GCO) at New Richmond Municipal Airport is scheduled for replacement this summer. The existing GCO, which allows pilots to communicate with air traffic control from the ground, was installed as part of a pilot program between NRMA and the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics in the fall of 1997. The GCO will be replaced by an updated, more reliable model with additional features.

MORE NEW THINGS
New Richmond resident Brian Hahn is now flight instructing at Mike Demulling Flight Instruction. Brian is a New Richmond native and 2003 graduate of Minnesota State University - Mankato with a degree in aviation. Also joining the aircraft fleet at Mike Demulling Flight Instruction is a multi-engine Beechcraft Travel Air. The aircraft is equipped with an S-Tec autopilot, long range fuel tanks, King radios, and an HSI. If you want complex or multi-engine time, give me a call at 715-246-7735 or e-mail to: mike@nrairport.com .

BROKEN STROBES
The Runway End Identification Lights (REIL's) - the strobe lights located at the approach ends of runway 14 & 32 - have experienced several interruptions in service this spring. Blown circuit boards, failed lamps, and bad luck all contributed to the outages. As of last month, all four units are back in service.

PILOT LOUNGE IMPROVEMENTS
Several small, but noticeable improvements have occurred recently in the pilot lounge located in the Griggs Aviation building at NRMA. The weather/flight planning room was outfitted with a counter to accommodate the replacement of the WeatherMation System scheduled for this summer. Dish Network was also installed last week. Pilots now have access to The Weather Channel, and 100 other channels. The LED message board was also updated.

PRETTIEST THING THIS SIDE OF THE PARKING LOT
Make sure to take notice of the new flower garden constructed near the entrance to the automobile parking lot in the south hangar area. A new airport directory will be installed later this month directly across from the flower garden.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
July 4th fireworks at the airport. A great opportunity to purchase a bag of mini-donuts for only $2.
