OUT WITH THE OLD
The WeatherMation computer located in the Griggs Aviation pilot lounge was officially decommissioned last Friday. In its place is a new Meteorlogix computer with the AviationSentry weather briefing system. The Meteorlogix system continually receives real-time weather data via satellite, including regional and local radar, weather satellite photos and aviation-specific forecast maps. Meteorlogix machines will replace the WeatherMation computers at airports across Wisconsin throughout the remainder of the year. New Richmond Municipal Airport was one of the very first airports in Wisconsin to receive the new system. Two additional Meteorlogix weather computers were also added at the airport - Hangar 2-5 (AB Flight Services) and Hangar 6-1 (Mike Demulling Flight Instruction).

FAA SEMINAR
The Milwaukee Flight Standards District Office announced plans this week for an upcoming aviation safety seminar to be held in New Richmond. The seminar is being held in cooperation with the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics and New Richmond Municipal Airport. The seminar is scheduled for Friday, October 3rd from 6:30 until 10 PM. The seminar will probably be held on the campus of WITC-New Richmond. Over 130 pilots attended the last safety seminar held in New Richmond in May 2002. Attendance for this seminar could easily reach 150 since no other safety seminars are planned in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

TONY STEWART STOPPED BY THE OTHER DAY
NASCAR driver and defending Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart flew into New Richmond Muni Airport last Friday. Stewart was in town for the third time in his career to race at nearby Cedar Lake Speedway. Local pilots also coordinated fly-bys during the pre-race activities. Two other NASCAR drivers will be stopping by NRMA for the second time this year - Dave Blaney and Winston Cup Series points leader Matt Kenseth. They will race at Cedar Lake Speedway on August 13th.

MINI DONUTS AND FIREWORKS - SOUNDS DANGEROUS
Once again, fireworks will be launched on July 4th from the north shore of Hatfield Lake along the southern boundary of New Richmond Municipal Airport. Typically, between 1500 and 2000 people gather along Airport Road near the entrance to NRMA to watch the fireworks, along with several thousand people on the south side of Hatfield Lake. This year we will also have mini donuts for sale for $2 per bag beginning at approximately 7 pm near the south hangar area parking lot.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
July 4th fireworks at the airport. A great opportunity to purchase a bag of mini-donuts for only $2.
July 22nd - Airport Commission Meeting at the airport
September ?? - Young Eagles rally at NRMA - watch for updates on nrairport.com
October 3rd - FAA Aviation Safety Seminar in New Richmond
