NEW UNICOM/CTAF FREQUENCY COMING
Effective September 9, 1999, NRMA will have a new common traffic advisory frequency. 122.975 was assigned to NRMA approximately 18 months ago. The change is coming due to the congestion on the current CTAF - 122.9. There are approximately 12 airports within a 70-mile radius on 122.9 - making radio transmissions difficult to understand at best. A 720-channel radio is required to use the new CTAF.
AWOS UPDATE
Officials at the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics confirmed Monday automated weather at NRMA will be a reality late this summer or early fall. The AWOS equipment is in the process of being ordered. Representatives from the company installing the equipment will be stopping by in the next several weeks to choose a suitable installation site somewhere on airport property. Once the AWOS is commissioned, current NRMA Metar reports will be available at nrairport.com.
NEW AIRPORT COMMISSION MEMBER
New Richmond Mayor Dave Schnitzler appointed 1st term City Council member Renee Keating to the Airport Commission. Renee replaces six-year Airport Commission member Mary Zipperer who decided to not seek re-election to the City Council. Renee was elected to the Council in April 1998 and serves the 4th aldermatic district on the east side of New Richmond.
FIRST SEA-PLANE OPS
The first official sea-plane ops occured this past weekend at NRMA. Hatfield Lake is still very usable even though the water level is down approximately 12 inches over last year. Seven straight-float equipped aircraft are based at NRMA as well as 4 or 5 amphibs.
90 BY FALL?
Nine new hangars have been constructed during the last 18 months at NRMA. The last two hangars on the south end of the airport are under construction. Based aircraft at the airport has hovered around 70 - 80 for the last year or so. The new hangars should allow around 90 locally based aircraft by the end of the year.
