PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP, PLEASE
It's time to pull together. The volunteer New Richmond Airshow Committee desperately needs your help. An airshow is planned for July 9th and 10th in conjunction with New Richmond Fun Fest. In order for the airshow to be a success, volunteer help is needed. An airshow planning meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7th at 6:30 PM in hangar 6-1 at NRRA. Members of the Airshow Committee will be on hand to discuss the current plans for the show and the positions needed. If you want to help with the airshow but can't make it to the meeting, please send me an e-mail (mike@nrairport.com) or give me a call at 715-246-7735. By the way, food and beverages will be provided at the meeting on the 7th!

AIRPORT PROJECTS
Bids were opened last Thursday on the next construction project scheduled for this summer at NRRA. Dresel Construction out of Chippewa Falls was the apparent low bidder for the half-million dollar project http://www.dot.state.wi.us/business/engrserv/airports/apparent-lowbidder.htm . The project includes construction of two additional taxilanes in the north hangar area, installation of storm sewer, construction of an auto access road, construction of two auto parking areas, and security improvements. Seventeen new hangars are planned for the area, including a mix of eight 60' x 60' hangars and nine larger, corporate size hangars. Construction should start in early July.

NEW AIRPORT BUSINESS
Air ambulance operator Life Link III is in the process of moving their St. Paul base to New Richmond. The first day of operation out of their new facility in Hangar 12-1 will be this Thursday, June 9th. Life Link III operates additional bases in St. Cloud, MN and Hutchinson, MN. A crew consisting of a pilot and two medical personnel will be on duty at the airport 24-7. A "Welcome to the airport" cookout lunch will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday near hangar 12-1. Everyone is invited.

NEW STAR PROCEDURE FOR INSTRUMENT PILOTS CREATED BY SOMEONE WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR
The May 12th edition of the US Terminal Procedures has a new standard terminal arrival procedure (STAR) serving many airports around Minneapolis/St. Paul, including New Richmond Regional. A STAR is an air traffic control arrival route for instrument flight rules traffic established to simplify clearances and facilitate transitions to instrument approach procedures. The name of the new STAR is AGUDE 1 (pronounced "A good one" for reasons that will become obvious in the next few sentences). The initial fix for the procedure is either Badger VOR near Milwaukee or "THATS" intersection north of Eau Claire. When filing an instrument flight plan using the new arrival with THATS intersection, you would file: THATS - AGUDE 1 - NEW RICHMOND.

AIRPORT LIGHTING
A key component to the runway lighting system failed during the evening of May 29th, leaving NRRA a pretty dark place for a few hours. A very expensive current regulating circuit board failed, which resulted in no runway lighting from 10 PM until 1:15 AM. Temporary repairs allowed the system to be operated at a reduced level until additional parts were received on Tuesday. The solar-powered LED taxiway lights that were recently installed near the approach end of runway 32 were unaffected.

NEW FBO BUILDING
Jay Griggs of Griggs Aviation announced the 15,000 square foot FBO building planned for the corporate hangar area on the north end of the airport is scheduled for completion in early fall. Dirt work will begin on hangar lot 11-12 within the next few weeks.

HANGAR SPACE
A few hangar spaces are now available for rent at NRRA, including space for corporate size aircraft. For a listing of hangar space available for rent, go to http://www.nrairport.com/rent.htm .

LEASE BILLS
The annual lease bills were sent to a record 119 leaseholders at NRRA late last week. The lease rate is remaining at $.10 per square foot for the 7th straight year.

JUST A REMINDER
Self-serve 100LL is $2.74 per gallon and Jet A is $2.49. Both Avgas and Jet fuel are available from the fuel trucks for another $.25 per gallon.
