IT'S A GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS THING
The automated weather at New Richmond Regional is broadcast on a frequency of 120.0. If you have ever tried to hear the weather on 120.0 while arriving from the east or southeast, you probably experienced some difficulty due to 120.0 being shared by Volk Field in central Wisconsin. Volk uses the frequency to broadcast real-time updates on the activity levels of military operations areas and restricted areas on a continuous basis. The Volk broadcasts are scheduled to come to an end according to an article posted on aero-news.net. The FAA has cancelled Volk's use of the frequency. The end result is a valuable service is coming to an end, but we will be able to hear the weather broadcasts much better. http://www.aero-news.net/news/genav.cfm?ContentBlockID=593b98e2-c7f0-423d-a57d-f3d1ec340feb&Dynamic=1
FRANCIS "BUD" BAUMANN
Some sad news to report. The founder of Baumann Floats, Francis "Bud" Baumann, died on June 27th at the age of 69 following complications from a stroke. Bud started a successful float manufacturing business at the South St. Paul Airport. Bud eventually moved his operation to New Richmond Regional Airport in the mid 1990's operating out of two hangars located in row 10. He sold his float manufacturing operation a few years ago, but maintained ownership of the two hangars. NRRA FEATURED IN BUSINESS MAGAZINE
The 2005 edition of St. Croix Business Review magazine, published by the Rivertown Newspaper Group, has an article about New Richmond Regional Airport. The magazine is an economic development tool used in the recruitment of businesses to the area. Copies of the St. Croix Business Review are available in the pilot lounge in the Griggs Aviation building at NRRA.
LIFE LINK III
Air ambulance operator Life Link III officially began operations at New Richmond Regional Airport on June 9th. Life Link III previously based their Bell 222UT medical helicopter at the St. Paul Downtown Airport. Their new base of operations is located in hangar 12-1 in the north hangar area at the airport. The addition of Life Link III at NRRA means a tremendous advancement in emergency medical care in the area, especially for trauma patients, and also a huge boost to the local economy. http://www.lifelinkiii.com
