FAA SAFETY SEMINAR
Tuesday, October 18th is the big night for the FAA "Wings" Aviation Safety Seminar in New Richmond. The free seminar will be held in the Cashman Conference Center on the campus of WITC - New Richmond beginning at 7 PM. Topics include general aviation accident trends and avoiding mid-air collisions. http://www.nrairport.com for directions. If you plan on flying in, please let me know ASAP to arrange transportation to and from the airport. 715-246-7735 or mike@nrairport.com

MIGRATORY WATERFOWL MANAGEMENT
You may have read about it in the newspaper, or even seen it on the KSTP 6 PM news where a reporter labeled it "A controversial plan to remove geese." Ummm, not quite. Birds and aircraft of all sizes are not compatible. NRRA requested an amendment to the local ordinances to allow hunting within the city limits in an effort to reduce the amount of geese residing on Hatfield Lake during the fall. Prior to 1992, there wasn't a problem with the birds because the land was outside the city limits, thus hunting was allowed. After the land was annexed, the number of birds has increased each fall. Hatfield Lake is adjacent to the south side of the airport. Last week the City Council approved an amendment to the ordinances that allows hunting, beginning October 20th, with written approval from the Police Chief, Mark Samelstad. Mark stated he plans on issuing approximately 20 to 30 permits this year. If you are interested in obtaining a permit, contact the New Richmond Police Department at 715-246-6667. You will be briefed on where to hunt, how to access Hatfield Lake, and other important rules. Good luck.

NEW TAXIWAY LIGHTS
The Airport Commission approved the installation of 23 new LED, solar-powered taxiway lights along the parallel taxiway to runway 14-32. Presently, reflective markers line the taxiway. The LED taxiway lights are identical to the lights installed near the approach end of runway 32 last May. The lights should be installed before the end of October.

SNOW REMOVAL
A second dump truck with a 12' snowplow was purchased last week by NRRA in preparation for the 2005-06 snow season. The truck was purchased from the St. Croix County Highway Department. You will most certainly recognize the familiar and attractive safety green color of the vehicle. We will plan on blasting and painting it to match the current dump truck next spring. In addition to the snow removal equipment, NRRA will once again use the E-36 liquid de-icing fluid on the runways and taxiways this winter. E-36 is non-corrosive and can effectively melt snow off runways at temps as low as 20 below zero. http://www.cryotech.com/products/E36/index.php

HANGAR PROJECT
The 2005 hangar area and security gate construction project is drawing to a close. The hangar area erosion control is complete and is now undergoing utility installation this week. The security gate for the corporate hangar area is partially completed. The gate will be operated the same as the north hangar and south hangar gates. Completion is scheduled for November.

HANGAR LOTS
NRRA should have 2 or 3 hangar lots for lease within the next week or so. If you are interested in leasing a lot and constructing a hangar, please let me know. A hangar layout diagram will be posted on nrairport.com this week reflecting what spaces are available. If you are interested in renting a space from an existing hangar owner, go to http://www.nrairport.com/rent.htm for a complete listing.

HIGHWAY PROJECT
Take a look at the STH 64 construction project the next time you go flying at NRRA - the progress is amazing. Construction began in September on the final portion of STH 64 from St. Joseph Township near Stillwater to New Richmond. The project includes realignment of the intersection of STH 64 and 65 near the airport. Work is scheduled for completion next year.
