 A CALL FOR HELP

The biggest airshow ever held in New Richmond is planned for June 24th and 25th at NRRA.  Airshow 2006 is produced by volunteers and serves as a great PR opportunity for the airport.  Additional volunteer help is needed to assure the event is a success.  If you are interested in helping with the airshow, please attend a meeting planned for Tuesday, June 6th at 6:30 PM in hangar 6-1.  Jim Letourneau, Pete Tallarita, Pat Anderson, Glenn Newby and Jay Griggs will all be on hand to discuss what is planned for the airshow.  Brats, hot dots, and various refreshments will be served.  Each hangar owner is entitled to two tickets to the show.  You can pick them up at the meeting tomorrow night.

NEW FBO BUILDING

The 18,000 square foot FBO building located in the corporate hangar area of the airport is nearly finished.  Air ambulance operator Life Link III moved into the second floor of the facility on May 24th.  John Strand, owner of Strand Aviation began operations in the facility on June 1st.  John is offering aircraft maintenance, line service, car rental, pilot lounge, and full-service aircraft fueling.  24-hour restrooms, lounge area, and weather computer will soon be available.  A grand opening of the new facility is planned for the weekend of the airshow.  The pancake breakfast held in conjunction with the airshow will actually take place in the FBO building.  John also mentioned he is planning on a hangar party on Saturday evening, June 24th.

HANGAR MOWING

New Richmond resident and UW-Madison student Robert Rice recently announced he is available for mowing around hangars in the north hangar area of the airport.  Robert plans on using his own mower and weed trimmer.  If you are interested in having Robert mow around your hangar, please contact him at 715-781-0443.

FUEL PRICES AND FLYING

Aviation fuel is still hovering in the $3.50 per gallon range.  A recent survey of area FBO's indicated the local avgas price is still near the lowest around.  Here's another reality check - if you were to purchase 20 gallons of gas locally, you would pay around $70.  If you were to purchase that same amount in Teterboro, just outside New York City, you would pay about $131.  Las Vegas would amount to $120.  Regardless of the price, if you haven't gone flying for a while, you need to check out the STH 64 four-lane project on the south end of the airport.  The amount of work that has been completed is impressive.

NEW SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT

NRRA is one of eight airports from Wisconsin participating in a mass snow removal equipment purchase.  Bids for a New Holland bi-directional tractor, runway sweeper, plow, snow blower, and bucket will be let on June 29th with delivery in late summer or early fall.

A FEW LAST ITEMS

- NRRA was featured in a recent issue of the Lang Report, a newsletter produced by the engineering firm of Lang & Associates.  The article summarized the security improvements that were completed at the airport.

- An article on NRRA also appears in the 2006 issue of St. Croix Business Review, which is a economic development publication produced by Rivertowns Newspaper Group.  Copies of the magazine can be found in the Griggs Aviation pilot lounge.
